I inherited a 1976 LC from my dad and am looking to get it road-worthy. Does anyone know where the VIN is on this year and model? We've checked the obvious places, but haven't located it yet. I have it on paperwork, but we need to verify it on the vehicle. Also, any 'practical' insight to this particular year/model? I'm trying to get an owner's manual, but not having much luck. Thanks for any help you might be able to send along - I'm at square one, so anything would be helpful!!

This year of FJ40 should have a data plate riveted to the left front door post and possibly one riveted to the firewall above the heater fan assembly which is in the engine compartment on the right-hand side. These older landcruisers actually used a serial number instead of a VIN. If you look at the right front frame member on the outside, between the bumper and the grill, you should find a number stamped in like FJ40-??????, probably 6 digits after the dash. This is your VIN.
