Default Ot looking for a camper a TJ with a 2.5 can pull

The subject says it all. I am thinking about something like the trailer shown on the cover of the current 4wheel drive and sport utilty. Obviously it needs to be lite weight, like a tear drop camper, the sleeping area needs to be big enough for 3-4 (myself and 2 kids). and something that can be towed off road. an out side kitchen area is ok, able to store my gear (currently including a tent can be packed into a CJ7). A popup is a concideration, a tear drop might work, or a home made (boy that would pi$$ off the wife!!!!) Any ideas or pics of what you all use or have scene?

This is a really good looking camper trailer, but is probably pretty pricey. I saw one at Camp Jeep a few years ago and it was nice, but I don't remember the price of it.

You better keep that trailer on the light side. Towing with a 2.5l is kind of a joke.
Aaron.

I looked at your profile. I was wondering if you considered using the Commander to tow a camper?

Don't take offense, but I wouldn't pull sqat with a 2.5 and I think unless stock or properly regeared most tj's with a 4.0 arent up to it.. While most would say that this is off topic, I would have to say nope, cause there is no camping trailer that should be pulled behind a 2.5
For 3 years we pulled a lightweight 4x8 trailer loaded half with wood and half with gear, all said there was likely less than 700lbs including trailer. With stock gears and tires I could run 65, but every time I hit a gap in the pavement the rear of the jeep jumped sideways and the fishtailing started. Later after a 3 inch lift and 32 inch tires, Can't get the same load to 60mph, and it walks all over.

Take it or leave it, but that engine is almost underpowered for the jeep let alone trying to pull something with it.

Here's a link that might help -

http://www.tentrax.com/

If you're a bit more serious, here's another -

http://www.bushmantrailers.com/Arriv...ture/Index.htm

There are even more serious ones as well. Google is a good friend -

I used 'tent trailers off road'

Happy trails!

There's much wisdom here. Strength of engine and drive train aside, a short wheel base unit with a fairly tall CG is a scary thing to herd down the road. Shorter distances at slower speeds perhaps - longer distances on the freeways should cause your neck hair to stand up and take notice!
