I am buying a '78 Scout. I am planning on restoring it, I don't know too much about them besides what I have read. Any tips out there will great... Thanks

Check out the FAQ over at www.binderbulletin.org
Good sight for general International Harvester Scout/light truck info.
Enjoy the new Scout. They're fun!

i had a 78 scout once.it was the best all-around vehicle i've ever owned.it had a 304 v-8,auto tranny ,3:07 rear and front axles and a/c.i ran 31 inch mud grips and got 15 mpg around town and 19-21 on the highway.that being said a scouts weak point for the late 70's is the electronic ignition and rust.i ended up putting a points distr. in mine. good luck u got one of the best vehicles ever produced.

I've had a 66 and 78 now and enjoyed every minute of them. The 78 was my first "car". Scouts are truly the best vehicle ever made. I never had a problem with mine, well other than the rust.
