Default Exhaust

Im looking to put a new exhaust on my truck. From what i've been reading on this forum i know that i should just have a local shop fab up some piping and bring in the muffler of my choice. The thing is i dont know which muffler i should get. Im looking for something with a deep bass tone to it. My friend had a 4.0 ranger with a 50series flowmaster on it that i liked. I've read that the borla has a deep tone to it and that the flow 40 or 50 is another good choice. I want to just have it cut and dumped right after the muffler. Does that mean that i'll be needing any piping done? If so does 2.25" diameter piping make a difference compared to the 2.5" diameter piping performance wise? Can i even get the borla muffler by itself? Would there be any problems with having it dumped and cut right after the new mufflers put on?

Thanks,
Bruce

I assume your talkin about the Tacoma.

If you wanna get off cheap, just cut your muff and tail pipe off, and have a 40 series Flowmaster or Prostreet\baby Spintech welded in with new hangers and a dump.

Id reccomend redoin the intermediate pipe in 2.5".

BruceBruce, it's really hard to understand what anyone is looking for in sound. I have a local shop run 2.5" cat-back with a Borla muffler and it's been over a year now and I still love the sound. It is very low(as close to a V-8 as I could get). My friend and neighbor owns a Dodge Dakota (Magnum V-8) & he says mine sounds better than his. I don't know his specifics, but he does have duals. I hear his crank-up & it sounds good to me so I think mine must be OK too. Bray

Bray is your exhuast dumped or do you have the complete borla exhaust system? From what your saying i think im going to go with the borla exhaust. Do you know anywhere where i could just acquire the muffler without paying the 500 or so for the complete exhaust system?

Thanks,
Bruce

I have a 03 tacoma trd. I installed the
magana flow exhaust, it looks and sounds excellent and the fit is perfect!! If you just want sound do the muffler thing, But if you want true performance go with Magna flow. I talked to alot of poeple and performance shops and evryone said Magana flow over everybody else.

Just find a local muffler shop (high quality) that carries Borla products. The rest is their pipe bending and craftsmanship. Mine isn't dumped just because I chose to have an slanted exit with a tip. Here's some pics of mine ($225out the door).

Zru, i test drove a 02 tacoma with the magna flow exhaust system and it sounded good. About giving the best performance i cant comment on that since i wouldn't know, but isnt the trd exhaust made by borla though? I mind might of made that up but for some reason i keep thinking I saw it somewhere.

You're right. Borla makes the TRD cat-back for Toyota. Bray

No it's not made by Borla! It's made by Toyota. And if you look at the muffler you will see how huge it is! And how the tubing flowing out is kinda rough.
