04 STI engine noise(TIC TIC TIC!)

I have owned three Subaru cars in my past and love them. i have an 04 STI with 27,000 miles on it. I started the motor in the morning (about 40 deg out) and the engine had a very loud tic sound. Shut engine off opened the hood and had the wife start the car. Again a loud tic noise. The following day i called the dealer and they picked the car up and took it into the shop. They called the next day and said that the car didnt duplicate the noise. They noted it in my record for future reference and i picked the car up. It hasnt made the noise again in the past 4 days. Is this a noise that others have had also? I was afraid it was a lifter or something like that. If anyone else has heard this in there engines please let me know and maybe what could be causing it.
