Default ML320 off-road worthiness

I'm about to buy some pasture land and am looking for a 4wd to drive across the pasture. What do y'all think about the off-road worthiness of the ML320 for that purpose?

Probably for a pasture it'll be fine. You really want to get something that expensive for driving in your pasture? Alright, be my guest!

I read a review of the ML430 in Peterson's in one of their 4x4 of the year competition. The concensus was that it really scored on road. It lagged behind the others off-road. They said it's independent suspension didn't keep the wheels on the ground well at all, and the traction control system was scary when tires left the ground (which they often did). It's activated by wheel spin, so if a tire leaves the ground, you have to give it enough throttle to spin the wheel pretty good. Then when the system activates, it'll send you into full-launch, so needless to say, it's not the best system for technical off-roading. If you're pasture's pretty flat without a lot of undulating terrain, go for it!
